Muslim "cleric" incites hatred and genocide

From Al-Rahma TV (Egypt) - January 26, 2009 (translated by MEMRI):

Egyptian Cleric Amin Al-Ansari Justifies the Holocaust, Airs Footage, and Publicly says on Arab TV: "This Is What We Hope Will Happen [another Shoah...] But, Allah Willing, at the Hand of the Muslims"

This was particularly upsetting. It would be laughable if one could forget for a moment that the audience that watches this may 1) be predisposed to believing it, 2) accept it because it comes from a religious figure and 3) be largely illiterate and or uneducated and so more susceptible to believing it.

Forget for a moment that the premise of this broadcast was hatred. Forget that prior to the footage of WW2 his whole rant was falsehoods and not a scrap of evidence was presented to even try to support any of it. Forget that his chronology was all off and his understanding of history is obviously non-existent (the German army needed to use children because everyone else was killed?) but even in his analysis of the videos, about how people were “waiting their turn to be killed” or “look at these German soldiers staring at the people they just killed” was plainly wrong. Many of the soldiers he called Germans were Americans who had just liberated the camp.

A true solution would be an effective Durban type conference where states could be encouraged to legislate against what is obvious hate speech. Many democracies have such rules which strike a balance between free speech and hate speech. The reality is, there is insufficient engagement with the authorities that facilitate and allow this sort of propaganda to be promulgated. By speaking more, not to the radicals who make films like this, but to more reasonable, moderate leaders, authorities can and should be encouraged to crack down on this filth.
