There's a story from 1982 of when Israel destroyed Iraq's reactor at Osirak. Israeli officials informed the pentagon of the impending attack minutes before it happened, when it was too late to stop it.
Like many other countries, Iraq referred to Israel as the Zionist entity. So, Pentagon officials were informed and the official reply they gave to Israelis was disappointment, concern; basically a negative reaction.
Yet, as the phone was hung up, in the Pentagon, cheers of "the entity strikes back!" could be heard.
Israel will attack if it wants to. Iran is not Iraq in 1982 though, and the consequences could be very very different.
